I can't stand her beach movies but I like Annette Funicello. (I liked the The Misadventures of Merlin Jones though.) This cd collection issued by Jasmine Records collects her Dance Annette album with some singles. Dance Annette is pretty fun going through dances like the Hokey Pokey. I liked the Disney stars like Hayley Mills and her more than the stars today.
This 1965 album is good. I discovered Margie Singleton in the movie Road to Nashville. It wasn't a good movie but it had plenty of country stars like Connie Smith and Dottie West. I recommend it if you like 60's country music. Margie Singleton is a pretty much forgotten country singer but she's good. This album has covers like Crying Time and Here comes my baby. (They're done well.) Also Margie wrote a couple of tunes here. Bear Family, an excellent German label, put out a cd of her earlier work than this. It's called Pledging my Love. I also recommend it.
Norma Jean did a tribute album to Porter Wagoner. It's pretty good. She sings songs that Porter sang. I love his version of I Thought I heard you Calling my name more. (That's my favorite song of his.) However this is a solid album. Her version of Dooley and Company's Comin' are fun. Norma Jean was one of the best country singers of the 60's. Bear Family should make a box set. I would buy it. Norma Jean had a laid back way of singing. She's amazing.
This is Charly McCalin's first album. None of her famous hits are here. It's an enjoyable laid back album. Her sound got more distinctive as her career went on. The catchiest song is Leanin' on the Bottle and slowly falling down.
