This is Thelma Houston's first album. It's different from her more famous albums. (She's mostly known for her disco albums.) Most of the songs are written by Jimmy Webb. It comes across as easy listening. Her cover of Jumpin' Jack Flash is fun. Dusty Springfield would later cover Mixed up Girl.
This is a fun disco album. I got it for my birthday. Gordon Lightfoot's If you could read my mind is fun set to a disco beat. However it kind of takes away the seriousness of the song. Viola also does Gonna get along with you now, the Patience and Prudence song. It takes away the childishness of the song. There's also other covers on this cd. This is the only album of Viola's in print. The rest are best of's. I hope that her albums will all eventually get released again.
Obscure folk album from the 70's. The girl kind of has a voice like Marianne Faithfull. It's a nice mood piece. The song that sticks out the most is Black Girl. It's worth looking for. It reminds me of records like Linda Perhacs and Vashti Bunyan.
